Spring Creek Spirit Night

Spring Creek Spirit Night is back! Join us Thursday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Spring Creek's Grand Prairie location, 4108 S. Carrier Parkway. PTA will receive 25% of money made during those hours. In the past, this has been a very successful fundraiser, and we know we can count on you to keep the success going this time.

For PTA to be eligible for a spring fundraiser, the restaurant is asking that at least 80 Cabaniss students attend the event. So, grab your family, friends, neighbors -- and your student -- and head to Spring Creek on Dec. 9.

It's book fair time!

Our fall book fair is here! It's a great opportunity for you and your student to buy cherished books -- and help PTA.
The fair runs Oct. 8-15 in the Cabaniss library. It's open from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Meet Cabaniss' new principal!

Join us as we introduce new Cabaniss Principal Kisha McDonald at PTA's next meeting Tuesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Ms. McDonald will be on hand after the meeting to answer your questions. If you'd like to submit a question, please use the form that was sent home with your student. Forms must be turned in by Monday, May 24, for the questions to be considered.

MISD End-of-Year Centennial Celebration

Join Mansfield ISD for an end-of-the-year celebration of its centennial. There will be entertainment, free food, live music and games from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (May 1o) at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

New Cabaniss principal named

Kisha McDonald, an assistant principal at D.P. Morris Elementary, was named Cabaniss Elementary's new principal this week.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

Get ready to celebrate the awesome teachers and staff of Cabaniss Elementary. Teacher Apprecation Week is Monday, May 3, through Friday, May 7. We love our teachers and want to make them feel appreciated and special. Each day will have a special theme to let the teachers know how great they are! Please keep in mind that is week is not about money, but about thoughtfulness and appreciation.

Here's a rundown of the themes for each day:

Monday: Poetry Day Have you child write a poem about his/her teacher. Or, write the teacher's name vertically on a piece of paper, and have your child create a poem with each sentence beginning with the letters of the teacher's name.

Tuesday: Restock the Classroom Day Bring markers, Sharpies, glue sticks -- anything your child's teacher could use in the classroom.

Wednesday: Sweetness Day Bring a sweet treat for the teacher and attach a note telling the teacher how sweet she/he is.

Thursday: Two Nice Things Day Have your child pledge to do two nice things to help his/her teacher (for example, cleaning up an area, putting away supplies.)

Friday: Flower Power Day Bring the teacher a single flower (real or artificial).

Spring Book Fair starts Monday

Stock up on books for the summer at the Spring Book Fair. It runs Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cabaniss library. Or, come out Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. During your visit, check out the teachers' classroom wishlists and you can make a donation to your child's classroom library. Come out and help make your child a lifelong reader.

ADHD parenting workshop on Friday, April 9

The Parenting Center is presenting a workshop aimed to help parents whose children have ADHD. It's titled "The Love and Logic Approach to Parenting the ADHD Child." The free workshop runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 9 at Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary in Mansfield. All Mansfield ISD parents and staff are welcome.

Free parenting seminar Saturday, March 6

Mansfield ISD parents and teachers are invited to a free Parenting With Love and Logic training seminar Saturday, March 6, at Willie Pigg Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The seminar will touch on practical solutions to common problems parents and teachers face when dealing with children.

Mixed Bag Designs fundraiser

Go green and support PTA -- and look good doing it!

PTA's next fundraiser is through Mixed Bag Designs. These fashionable, eco-friendly, all-purpose bags are good for Earth, fun to use and much more stylish than the reusable bags available at retail stores.

Bags range come in various sizes (from bottle bag and insulated lunch bag to the box store bag) and super-cute colors and patterns. They're perfect for toting groceries, books, travel gear, beach gear and more. Each bag is made of polypropylene and wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Bags are priced from $7 to $15, and PTA gets a portion of the proceeds from the sales. Order forms for the bags were sent home with your student. They are due back March 10. Buy bags for yourself or to give as gifts!

Fundraisers to celebrate Mansfield ISD's centennial

Several fundraisers are coming up next month to celebrate Mansfield ISD's centennial. Several restaurants in Mansfield are donating a portion of amount of your ticket to the MISD Education Foundation when you dine with them on specific dates. And, if you wear a Mansfield ISD Centennial T-shirt, you can get freebies at some places. Some restaurants require you to download a flier for the foundation to receive the donation.

An order form for the T-shirts will be sent home soon with your child.
